When a Problem Comes Up, Do You React? Or Do You Respond?

When a Problem Comes Up, Do You React? Or Do You Respond?

My honda broke down yesterday. It was the kind of breakdown that gave me absolutely no warning, or at least none that I noticed.

Now, I have been in a long period of transformation and building the life that I want for myself.

The “transition” I refer to is the transition from full time employee to that of an entrepreneur.

It has been a lot of reading, learning and working on my mindset.

So, back to my honda …….when I had returned home the night before, water gushed out of the bottom of the car. The temperature never changed, no lights went on, it didn’t over heat. Luckily, the car waited until we got home before it let me know there was trouble.

So the next morning, we went outside to check the situation, fill what needed to be filled with more water and took it for a test drive. We returned home and the car did the same thing again. There was a problem and it was a huge one!

I could have done one of two things:

I could REACT to the problem,

or I could RESPOND to it.

If I had been in this same situation a couple years ago while I was just an employee, I would have been stressed out and worried that I couldn’t make it to my job. I would have been worried about how I was going to pay for the repairs and wonder if this had happened, what else could happen? That would have been my/ the employee mindset talking. I was letting life just happen to me.

I was actually surprised at how I RESPONDED to the situation I found myself in. I was bummed out of course, as my honda and I have been through a lot together in the past 14 years and over 230,000 miles we’ve traveled together. I focused on the problem at hand, and took care of the situation. I didn’t stress out over it. I have learned that when something happens, I don’t dwell on it or worry about what was. That was the past and now, I move forward and take control of the situation, as opposed to worrying and dwelling on something that cannot be changed. Responding in this way, left me feeling more confident and free.

An important element of my current mindset is that I found myself asking what can I learn from the situation? What can be gained from this small obstacle before me?

The mechanic informed me that the car was going to be in the shop for at least 5 hours. So, I didn’t waste the free, non j.o.b. day that I was given with my vehicle out of commission. I enjoyed the hot (for Ventura) sunny 30 minute walk home from the shop and took care of some items from my growing to do list. It definitely wasn’t a lazy day for me!

How about you? Do you react or respond to a situation?

What do you do when life throws you a curve ball?

What really made an impact in my life and helped me to get organized and laser focused for success was by playing The Ultimate Game of Life. You can play too and create the life that you want and deserve.

The Secret of the Power of the Words You Use

The Secret of the Power of the Words You Use

Are you aware of how powerful your words are? I know when I was growing up, my mother was always telling me to mind my mouth; watch what I say. What she meant was to make sure that I was polite to others and didn’t say hurtful things. Over the years, I have learned just how much more powerful our words really are. It goes well beyond just our behavior.

I am a huge believer in the knowledge that I create my life. I can control and create the environments that I exist in. Whatever we say that follows “I am…” will create that existence for us. If I say that I am overwhelmed, stressed out, confused etc., then I WILL be that. By saying that I am something, then I am focusing on it. I am bringing more of it into my world. If I say that I am stressed out (and keep saying it or thinking it) then I will remain stressed out or bring myself more stress instead of focusing on and figuring out how to solve whatever dilemma is causing me that stress. What we focus on expands, so why not focus on the positive and the possible solutions and not on the problem and what could go wrong next!

So, how do we help ourselves feel better and not get ourselves bogged down with feelings such as stress, overwhelm, or having bad things always happening in our lives etc.?

It is very simple and very powerful. Change your words! Eliminate the negative words like can’t or won’t. Instead of saying I can’t do this, ask yourself, how can I do it? Instead of saying, I have so much to do, I am stressing out, think about all that you have gotten done and the steps you need to do to reach that goal.

Words can create a very powerful existence, and in a way will help determine our results or outcome. To move yourself forward and create success, focus on the words you use, especially when it comes to words describing yourself and the world you exist in.

I learned how to create and design my environments by participating in The Ultimate Game of Life.

It Was Time For Break….a Trip to the Fair!

It Was Time For Break….a Trip to the Fair!

I am a huge believer in taking breaks. When I say break, I mean getting up and away from my desk. I have made it a habit to change my environment several times a day. Usually, I take a 5 to 10 minute walk around the neighborhood, or cruise across the street the the park. I don’t know about you, but after a while, my brain starts to wander and then I begin to lose my focus. Taking a break gives our minds a chance to re-energize and gain a new perspective.

We went to the fair! –

This past Wednesday, I did more than just take a little break. I took the whole day off! We had a total environment change. We went down to the Ventura County Fair, just a few miles from where I live. Not only was it a change of environment, but it gave us something to do that was out of the ordinary. It was a fun day of food, entertainment and a learning experience. We go at least once every year when the fair is in town. I took a few photos to share our day with you.

We took a walk out onto the pier where I took this picture of the fairgrounds. You can see the giant ferris wheel on the left. It was such a beautiful day.

The Giant Ferris Wheel is one of my favorite rides. The view at the top is amazing (I have no picture of that). The fairgrounds are located right at the beach, so when you are at the top, you get 360 degree view and can see the Pacific ocean, islands, mountains, and Santa Barbara to the north and Port Hueneme to the south.

Mississippi rock band - 3 Doors Down

Mississippi rock band – 3 Doors Down

As the sun was setting, 3 Doors Down took to the stage. They played an awesome show, a lot of their hits such as Kryptonite, It’s Not My Time, and When I’m Gone, and an awesome cover of Megadeth’s Symphony of Destruction. They rocked the house, which was actually the speedway.

After the show, we strolled over to see the the animals at the agricultural area where we saw a ton of cows, goats, sheep, chicken, rabbits, turkies, geese, and more.  We came across a huge mother hog feeding her little offspring.  There were at least a dozen of them. She had just laid down as I was taking pictures.

Earlier in the day, we had watched a horse and mule show. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures of that. At first, I didn’t notice that they were mules because they looked very much like horses. If you really look at these beautiful animals, you could see that they weren’t horses. The woman conducting the show explained that mating a Jack, a male donkey, with a mare, a female horse, it produces a mule. At one point in my life, I think I learned that, but had forgotten that fact! She went on to say that  a mule is 5 times smarter than a horse and had a better personality, but didn’t go on to tell us how they came up with those statistics. I enjoyed watching the mules jumping and performing tricks while learning about them.

The night was capped off with a spectacular fireworks show that lasted almost 15 minutes.  We had such a great time at the fair. We have gone every year since we’ve been in Ventura,  which is almost ten years now. It gives me a chance to get away from my every day activities and get a chance to re-energize so that when I get back to my desk the next day, I will be refreshed and re-focused. I got a break away from my daily monotony and got to have a new and fun experience.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures. I wanted to share a little bit of my day off with you.

What do you do to take a break, or take a day off?

Do you have a County Fair in your area? do you go?   I would love to hear your experiences!

Are You Achieving the Results That You Want?

Are You Achieving the Results That You Want?

Are you achieving the results that you want? Are you working day in and day out, and not getting the result that you want? You know you’re getting things accomplished, but the outcome just isn’t right?

Where is your focus?

If you aren’t getting the results that you do want, then the reason could be where your focus is.  If you are focusing on the results, then you’re probably not putting in enough focus on your actions. I know this occasionally holds true for me. Sometimes, I find that I get so wrapped up in what I’m trying to achieve, that I’m not spending the time that I should be on my actions, or what I am supposed to be doing.

To get the results I want, I need to focus more on my actions. Focus on my daily habits. It is so important that we develop habits because it helps to create structure and helps us to get closer to, and ultimately achieve our goals.

For example, weight is a result. If I am not happy with my weight (my result), then I need to create habits that will get me the results that I want. Some of the habits that I could create would be that I will eat smaller portions, get more exercise, or eat less sugar.

Just as we would focus on our habits and actions to produce the results we want, then it also holds true that: if we don’t like the results we have and want to change that result, then we just need to change our habits.

So, it all comes down to our daily method of operation.  Are you focused on the end result? Or are you productive in taking the steps that are going to take you to your desired outcome?

To learn how you can get better organized, and laser focused and create the habits that will help you to complete any of your goals, check out: The Ultimate Game of Life.

3 Simple Tips to Successful Blogging

3 Simple Tips to Successful Blogging

3 Tips for A Successful Blog

I enjoy blogging. It has been a huge learning curve for me though. I have my online business part time, and find that I can get a post published about 2 times a week. I have found new tools, tried many things and learned a lot throughout my time as a blogger. I have made many mistakes along the way and have found a few things that I have done that have helped me get more views, traffic, shares and comments.  Three of them are listed below:

Provide content and give readers value –

You know what they say, “content is king”.  I have heard and seen this many times in the internet and marketing world. People online are looking for information. They are looking for solutions to their problems and answers to their questions. If you offer readers good content and value, then they will want to continue reading what you have to share and will be attracted to want to learn more. If a person doesn’t get anything out of a post, he or she will lose interest and not return.

Make sharing effortless  and easy-

Many times, your blog visitors/ readers will enjoy your content so much that they may want to share it with their friends and followers on social media and other places.  The easiest way for them to do that is to provide them with the tools, which are share buttons to do just that. WordPress, the blogging software that I use, offers members a lot of plugins to chose from that add share buttons and bars to blogger’s posts. These bars and buttons come in many different shapes and sizes, and are very effective to get your readers sharing your content.  I share others bloggers content all the time and love that a simple button on the page lets me share it in a matter of seconds. If I didn’t have that option, and the only way to share would be to copy and paste a link, I don’t know that I would have or want take the time to share it. I may just leave a comment and then move on. So make sure that you make it easy for your readers to share your content, or you may be missing out on a lot of new or potential readers and visitors!

Join and participate in blog sharing and networking groups –

Similar to simple sharing, only taking it a little further is to join and participate in blogging groups. Blogging groups are a place for bloggers to go and socialize with fellow bloggers. These groups allow you to share your content with a larger group, meet and talk to fellow bloggers, have your questions answered and more. You get the opportunity to grow your own audience, and strengthen your skills. My blog and skills have definitely improved since I have participated in these groups. I have watched what others have done and listened to the constructive criticism/ compliments from others in the groups. I love the support that people give each other. I know I’m not alone out here!

  • Facebook groups – I have several Facebook groups that center around blogging and sharing each others posts. One is for the Ultimate Blog Challenge (see below). The other groups are ones that I found through various programs that I have participated in. You can do a search for blog groups on Facebook, or you can create your own group.
  • Blog Networking Groups – There are several blog networking websites out there on the web. I currently have experience at one, which is Triberr. The networks help you to get more traffic to your blog, especially if you don’t yet have a big following on social media.

These are just a few things that you can do to improve you blog and get more traffic and attention to your site. I am constantly learning, doing and changing what I do. There is always room for improvement!

I hope you leave this page with some value. Please remember to comment and Share!

What things do you do where you have had success with your blog?  Do you/ have you participated in any blogging groups?  Please share…I would love to hear about it.
