I have found that one of the most important things an entrepreneur can do is to schedule his or her day. It doesn’t have to take a long time; sometimes it only takes a few minutes. Planning ahead helps the entrepreneur to be organized and have enough time to get done what needs to be done for the day.
I have found from my own experience that if I don’t give myself a time limit to complete a task, then I may be distracted, and end up spending too much time on one project, which then leaves me little time to finish the other tasks I had wanted to do. When I first started my business, many people told me that it is very important to schedule your day ahead of time. I brushed the idea aside, thinking of how much I dislike making and sticking to a schedule. I thought, “I can do what I want when I want” since it was my business. Fortunately, I have since changed my mind!
Your tasks don’t need to be scheduled down to the minute, or plan every single moment of your life. Doing that would leave no room for surprises, spontaneity, fun, or whatever else may come up. I have found that it helps a great deal to put a time limit on your tasks. For example, if you give yourself an hour to finish a task, you will find that you will probably get that job done in that hour just as you could have been able to stretch it out to 2 hours, enabling you to get more accomplished. Also, you will find that you can be just as productive in that 1 hour as you can in 2 hours. And, in addition to that, you’ll have time to do other tasks.
Setting aside ten or fifteen minutes of your day to plan what you’ll be doing the next day can and will save you time in the long run & make it possible to get more accomplished as well as being more successful. For entrepreneurs, our time is very important and valuable!
