Why Do I Even Want to Set Goals For Myself?

Why Do I Even Want to Set Goals For Myself?

You’ve probably been hearing a lot about setting goals since we’re in the beginning of 2014. I know that I have.  I asked myself why I needed goals for myself and didn’t learn the answer until I started playing The Ultimate Game of Life. This was one of the first valuable  things that I learned.

You see, I really didn’t know how to set goals, and more importantly, how to reach them. I thought I did know, but thinking back on it…I never did achieve a goal I wanted to reach. They turned out to be more like new years resolutions that sounded good, but never come to fruition. I pretty much stated, “I will do this…” only to do nothing about it. It’s no wonder I never achieved them, since I was going about it all wrong.

Setting goals seemed more interesting to me once I learned why doing so is so important for me , and you dear reader, as well. Below, are just some of those reasons.

Setting goals:

Provide focus

Help us to create habits in our life

Creates inspiration

Creates motivation

Give us direction, as a line or path to follow to get us to where we want to go.

Help to keep us aligned to our end goal, how to act etc.

Bring us positive feelings and confidence through accomplishment and progress

Can create organization and order

Can help to measure the progress we make

I feel that my life is so much better since I have learned how to set goals, and how to structure myself so that I can reach them. It has truly helped me and guided me to many successes in both my personal and business lives. I wish the same for you too.

Learn how to get laser focused and organized in your life. Create the life you deserve while playing The Ultimate Game of Life.

Thank you Amritt. Although I have played Hasbro’s Game of Life, what I am talking about is a live, interactive, fun program called The Ultimate Game of Life. It was created by a gentleman named Jim Bunch and has helped hundreds of thousands of people to create the lives they want to have. Please check out the link I provided. It will take you to a short video introduction by Jim himself: http://tinyurl.com/klxmc9w
      Thanks again.

I love setting goals and privately I set feelings with how I want to feel after those goals are accomplished. It helps me to stay motivated and reminds me why I set those goals in the first place.

Thank you Shay. I like that you mentioned that setting feelings helps to remind you of why you set the goals in the first place!

Great post! As a personal trainer, I’m always talking about goals especially this time of year 🙂 I just wrote an eBook about it as my opt in for my newsletter. And doing that was one of my goals! Now I need to go work on the opt in page so people know that they’ll get the book as a gift. That’s another thing about goals, sometimes you need to break them down into smaller steps 🙂

Awesome Catherine! Your goal was to write about setting goals. I love it. Great point – breaking goals down so that they are easier to reach. Sometimes, small steps are just what we need to accomplish something big. My next post is about how to achieve your goals such as making them simple so that we can reach them, and some possible roadblocks. You definitely know your stuff!

  4. Jodene – Setting goals is important. I know I’ve experienced what you talk about having resolutions and not doing anything. But setting a clear, measureable, time-limited goal is really powerful. Being able to celebrate your own success when you reach that goal is so much fun.

You’ve got that right Heather! When we reach our goals, there is such a feeling of accomplishment and it can definitely be fun. I know that I enjoy making goals now that I understand how much good doing so can do for me and my life. As you mentioned, making them measurable and with a time frame are some of the ways that make goal reaching a success! Thank you for your comment. 🙂
