 July is “National Anti – Boredom Month”


I thought this was rather strange when I came across this “holiday” as I was gearing up for the coming month.  Today, I find that I am very rarely in a state of boredom, but as a youngster, I was constantly whining to my mother that I was bored….I had nothing to do. That of course was further from the truth. I just spent a lot of my time in front of the television – “the automatic income reducer”, just wasting my days away. At least that’s what it felt like.

Occasionally, today, I find myself not wanting to get done what I need or want to get done. Sometimes, it seems like the spark or desire has dwindled. I need to refocus my energy and my mind and gain some inspiration.


Here are some tips and things that you can try to get your energy and inspiration back when boredom starts to set in:


  • Change your environment – escape from your environment. Go for a walk, get some fresh air. Removing yourself from where you are stuck can refocus your mind to something different, something fresh. You may just need a change of pace, even if it’s a short 10 minute walk through your neighborhood.

  •  Change your physiology – this is any change in movement to get your body moving. You could step away from your desk and do some jumping jacks or run up and down the stairs a few times. This will get your blood pumping and your lungs breathing. Some people may want to scream, or maybe turn on your favorite tunes and dance around – that’s always fun.

  • Do some major de-cluttering – Sometimes we may not realize it, but having a lot of clutter, paperwork, items that we have that are either broken or that we don’t need are causing us stress. By eliminating these items from our living or work spaces, we are clearing and opening up space. We would have more breathing room, more room for inspiration and getting things done.

Pretty much, it just helps to shake things up a bit. Tweak the routine a bit, do something out of the ordinary in order to keep that boredom away. These are just a few tips that I use in my daily life to help me when things start to get a little boring and monotonous.

      I find it addicting, but so very helpful. I feel so good once I get rid of junk & organize! I find myself looking for more. 🙂 You should definitely try it – it could make a world of difference. 🙂

    THE DE-CLUTTERING!!!!! That’s a big one for me. I dread it. Then it fills my days and makes me so happy to GET RID OF IT!!!! Do you think this one will work on my kids when THEY are looking for something to do??

      I know…feels great doesn’t it?! I’m sure it could work with the kids…just turn it into a fun game. What kids wouldn’t want to play right?! That would be awesome! 🙂

    I LOVE the inspiration I can find when I change my environment. Even just people watching sitting in our small town park can give a new perspective! I do get bored sometimes yet I almost always feel like I am rushing??? Go figure. I hear that’s an “empty nest” thing :).

      Donna, I love a good change of environment! It really does wonders for the spirit. 🙂 Like you, I also love to people watch. My partner is always trying to get me to go somewhere else to work, like a coffee shop, but I can never concentrate because I’m too busy people watching!   6. Honestly I am never bored! I find there is so much to do and so much I want to do that it keeps me going happily. If I do have some downtime it is appreciated and in fact I have to re-learn the art of taking time out to rejuvenate.
