Sitting Is Killing You – The Truth About Sitting Down

Sitting Is Killing You!

The Truth About Sitting Down

I don’t mean to scare anyone.

I came across this on a Pinterest board. I have suffered back pain and related issues for years, so information like this really catches my eye. Back related topics are something that I am sensitive about and aware of.

Actually, just the other day, the chair that I have been using tweaked my back so that I couldn’t walk straight up without feeling pain. I had only been using it for about a week, but there was something about it (cheaply made, no support) that just made my body just scream. Well, I traded chairs with someone else and have felt great all day!

So please, my friends, if you spend a lot of time sitting down, please remember to take breaks, walk around and get some fresh air.

Enjoy the info-graphic! It’s a bit long, full of information and has some great pics.

  1. I sit behind my desk for most of my work day, while counseling my clients and patients. So, I make it my business to go out for a walk at lunch time, and to take stretch breaks as much as I can. Since I am a nutritionist, I advocate activity and not sedentary behavior. So sitting for a large part of the day really makes me crazy. I make sure to get my exercise in the morning before I get to work, and as much movement during the day as possible. Sometimes when I am working with kids, I get them up and we do jumping jacks or squats together. Very interesting post, thank you.

Thank you for your comment Bonnie. That is so awesome that you are as active as you are considering you spend so much time at your desk. I can tell a huge difference if I don’t make it outside for some sunshine during the day. I too spend most of my day behind a desk! I get out as much as I can. I live in such a beautiful place I can’t pass up a chance to get out and experience it!

  2. I’m going to get up and walk around some more. Wow. Incredibly potent information… and excuse me, my dogs want to get walked NOW! :~)

Another great UBC post. THANK YOU!

Thank you Julie. I’m glad you got some value out of the post. I think it’s so important, and some of us get too busy and don’t even think about taking a break. I’m glad you have some little friends that would enjoy a walk with you!

That’s an interesting infographic. I particularly enjoyed the one about back strain; I have a laptop at home for a computer and I find that I prefer working on it in my recliner to working on it at my desk. I’m just more comfortable when I can stretch my legs out and recline than I am sitting upright at a ninety-degree angle. And now I know why! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Very, very true! This is very valuable for entrepreneurs to understand. We tend to be an intense group of individuals and may not get up until the job is done. I know I sometimes have to remind myself to get up and move around on those days when working on a big project. Thanks for getting this message out to help create healthy and wealthy entrepreneurs. Best Regards, Wendy ๐Ÿ™‚
