You Create Your Own Happiness, So What are You Waiting For?!
I was listening to a cd on my way up to Santa Barbara this morning and was happily surprised that it had a few minutes from a presentation by one of my favorite speakers, Jim Rohn. The topic was Happiness in Life. Jim Rohn says that happiness needs to be woven. It doesn’t just happen. It is to be carefully woven like a tapestry, and there is an art to it that can be learned.
I was thinking about what he said and how much I agree with him and understand what he is talking about. I am a firm believer that I create my life, so therefore, I can create my own happiness as well. Each and every one of us has the ability to be happy. You don’t need a certain amount of money to create happiness, or have a degree either. You simply just need to have the desire and care to make it happen.
Happiness is a choice that we as individuals make. We can chose to be happy and make it happen, or we can sit around and maybe,….just maybe we might get happy. You create happiness on purpose, not by chance. For example, when putting together a birthday party for a loved one, are you going to start planning weeks in advance, find some colorful decorations, prepare foods that the birthday boy likes and have games planned? Or are you going to go shopping three days before the party and get what you can find? Which party will be more memorable? Which will be more fun?
Whether you’re happy or not also depends on the way you look at situations. Last night for example, I had traffic on my way home. Not the usual 45 minute commute. There was an accident which caused traffic that had me getting home almost an hour and a half after I left! Well, I figured I could be upset and mad that I had to sit in traffic instead of being home, or I can just look at the bright side and enjoy what I had. So what did I do? Probably what you would have done. I turned up the music and danced my way through the bumper to bumper. I had a great time….well, at least as much fun as I could sitting behind the wheel in rush hour. When I got home, I was happy and in a good mood.
And the best part is, is that we don’t have to put happiness on hold while we build our business and go after our dreams. We can have happiness as well as results.
