How to Regain Your Lost Focus

How to Regain Your Lost Focus

Do you ever get overwhelmed with everything on your “to-do” list?

Do you ever mentally feel like you hit a brick wall?

Do you have so many things going on in your head that you don’t know what to do next?

I find that I often have these feelings. I know that I’m not alone and not the only one that has these thoughts. You see, I am an entrepreneur and employee at the same time. I am in the process of transitioning into full time entrepreneur. I feel trapped between the two worlds, which are on total opposite sides of my universe!

I have a ton of ideas in my head and an even longer list of things I want to get accomplished in the short non-employee time I have available. So, what is important for me is to get focused and keep my mind in the “millionaire mindset”!

Here are some things that you can do to get clear minded and to get focused:

Do a “mind dump” – This is a very effective and fun technique that I learned from Jim Bunch, founder of The Ultimate Game of Life. In a nutshell, you’ll write down everything floating around in your mind that you need to get done. Write everything from washing the dog, picking up a gallon of milk at the store, writing a blog post, to calling a prospect. Get it all out on paper. The key is to move the non-tangible to the tangible. Next, you will want to classify each thing into 3 categories – action, project or goal. This better organizes your list and helps to get them accomplished. To get more detailed instructions, click here to go to a short video by Jim Bunch.

Change your physiology – If you find that you are tired, drained of energy, or distracted, you may want to change your physiology. You need to refocus and regain your energy. You can do this many different ways such as stepping away from your desk and jump up and down for a few minutes, put on your favorite music and dance, go for a walk, exercise/work out, or scream, just to name a few.

Vision/Dream Board – If you have a vision or dream board, you can spend some time looking at it. I like to do this to remind myself of why I’m doing what I’m doing. It’s a visual reminder of what my end goal will be. It is like looking at the finish line in a race.

Focus on the positive – If you find yourself at a roadblock little desire to move past it, it helps to focus on the positive. Find what is working for you, where your strengths lie, and follow that. Think about what is possible if you continue past that block.

It happens to all of us. We get busy, we take on too much and have a lot going on in our lives. Sometimes we lose our focus and clarity. These are just some of the many ways to regain that lost focus.

Can you think of any others? If you can, please feel free to list them in the comment section below.

I like that you mention sticking to your passions. It is so very important. I’m more of a visual person, so I like to keep pictures of my passions around me.

Great ideas here. I use a combination of tactics to keep me positive, motivated, and inspired. I utilize the mind dump, changing physiology, changing environments, power moves, and lots of other stuff. The more different ways you have, the better that way you never get burned out. Thanks for sharing this vault of solutions! 🙂

      Mike,
Thank you for your comments. Environments…very important! I should add that to my list. I’m not a fan of the power move, but I can see how it can benefit people. It is important to have variety in your life to not get burned out! Thank you for sharing. 🙂

Ha ha – too busy – too many irons in the fire. It sure is difficult to maintain focus when you have too many irons in the fire. Thanks for sharing these ideas.

Thank you Matt, and you’re right about all those irons!
Maybe we just need to try to get a little less irons in that fire…or at least better organize and prioritize them!
